Louise Van Willigen Memorial Professional Development Scholarship

Background to the Scholarship
The Louise Van Willigen Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship of OT AUSTRALIA Qld established in 2004 to honour the memory of Louise Van Willigen.
It was established to provide financial resources to enable applicants to access continuing professional development activities.
These activities may assist the applicant to acquire skills and knowledge that will promote leadership of the profession, provide vision in developing occupational therapy services, and to positively influence the development of the profession for the future. These goals are in accordance with the professional life and values held by Louise Van Willigen.
Louise was a guide and mentor in our professional association and served as president for two terms from 1986 to 1988 also filling the roles of vice president and treasurer/secretary at other times. She was a great visionary for the occupational therapy profession encouraging a high standard of professional skills and involvement in our professional association. Louise, along with dedicated groups of volunteer members, (particularly during the 70’s and 80’s) worked to provide all member services to keep the association moving forward with the vision of a strong and well respected profession.
Eligibility:
- The applicant will be a current voting member of OT AUSTRALIA Qld and will have been a continuous member for at least 3 years
- Members of committees, working froups, regional and special interest groups are encouraged to apply and will not suffer any discrimination in the selection process because of their honorary participation in the business of the Association.
- Current members of the OT AUSTRALIA Qld Board of Management are not eligible to apply.
Selection Guidelines:
Applicants are required to submit a written application for this scholarship. The applicant will provide
- a brief c/v (including current contact details)
- outline their broad professional development goals for the next year (it is not necessary to nominate particular events for which the scholarship funds would be used).
- a brief statement outlining how the applicant's professional development goals may benefit the profession or Association (eg service improvement, feedback to special interest group)
- The panel has the right not to grant the scholarship if applications are deemed to be not suitable.
The Scholarship
- Will be $550 (incl gst)
- The scholarship monies will be expressly for the purpose of participation and attendance at professional development events which will contribute to the achievement of the professional development goals stated in the application.
- The scholarship money is not limited to events run by OT AUSTRALIA Qld. The funds may be accessed for more than one event or as part payment towards a larger event.
- The funds may be used for registration fees or associated travel/accommodation costs.
- The funds will be available up to 31st December of the following year - i.e the event/s will be registered and paid for by 31st December but the professional development event may be after that date.
- Scholarships unclaimed by 31st December in the following year will be forfeited.
- The receipient must be a current member at the time of claiming the funds.
