OT AUSTRALIA Qld is proud to host this inaugural two-day event dedicated to soft tissue injury management and workplace health and safety and rehabilitation.   The program will have three streams and will include interactive workshops, masterclasses, information sessions and round table forums.   The goal of the symposium is to provide occupational therapists practicing in the work and soft tissue area with practical skills, grounded in evidence that can be easily applied to their workplace.

The Work and Soft Tissue Symposium are thrilled to announce two prominent Keynote Speakers for this exciting event.

Keynote speakers

Prof Jenny Strong

 

Jenny Strong is Professor of Occupational Therapy at The University of Queensland and former President of the Academic Board.  Jenny has extensive experience in researching, teaching and practicing in the area of pain.  Jenny will explore the valued role of OT in the area of pain management. 

 

 

 

Robert Gordon
Rob GordonRob Gordon is the President of the Australian Rehabilitation Providers Association National Council and a Full Member of Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors.   Rob has consulted to literally hundreds of major Australian and International private and public sector organisations.

Rob is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of The WorkFocus Group. 

As one of the founding Directors for the organisation, Rob has been instrumental in ensuring strong growth across three business entities:  WorkFocus Australia – vocational rehabilitation services; atWork Australia – JobNetwork employment services; LabourNet – labour market analysis.  With fourteen offices across the nation, Rob empowers his management team to achieve their professional and personal goals.

Rob will provide a motivational and informative keynote address exploring the future role for OTs in the work rehabilitation sector.

Michael Deen – Masterclass on pain management

Michael is Queensland Director of the Australian Pain Society and Clinical Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Pain Management Programs at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Helen Rowe – Workshop – Utilising Relaxation techniques

Helen Rowe is an Occupational Therapist & Rehabilitation Counselor with a Masters in Counselling and Post Graduate qualifications in Clinical Hypnosis (QUT). Helen operates a private practice in Paddington, specialising in coaching persons managing chronic illness, chronic pain and disability. She also delivers sessional hours within the Multidisciplinary Pain Centre at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital.

Dr Lisa Nissen – Workshop on pain management

Lisa Nissen is a senior lecturer in The University of Queensland School of Pharmacy, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (Qld Branch) and previous winner of the Young Australian pharmacist of the Year.
